DUNNAGE CLEANING
Clark Logic is the Detroit area’s leader in affordable, turnkey, outsourced dunnage cleaning. We specialize in customized container cleaning across a wide variety of industries, including the automotive, aerospace and defense contract sectors.
In this article our Detroit area dunnage cleaning experts answer our manufacturing customers’ Frequently Asked Questions about the types, steps, and processes of washing automotive dunnage containers.
The automotive industry is the country’s largest consumer of reusable manufacturing storage containers, and they represent the largest sector of our dunnage washing customers. Indeed, Clark Logic prides itself on servicing many of the Detroit area’s most elite automotive manufacturers and Tier suppliers.
However, almost every manufacturing industry utilize reusable containers in at least some segments of their supply chain. At Clark Logic we have dunnage and container cleaning capabilities to service the aerospace, defense, motorcycle, ATV, golf cart and watercraft industries, and their Tier vendors, as well.
We can also clean dunnage for the appliance, electronic, stamping, screw machine, tubing, foundry, computer, electrical, electronic, hardware, medical, and refrigeration manufacturing industries.
Virtually any reusable manufacturing container can be cleaned, including:
Washing dunnage eliminates contamination such as soluble machine coolants, oils, grease, sludge, dust, chips, shavings, particulates, and other debris left behind during the manufacturing process.
And don’t forget, high powered dunnage drying is an equally important component of the dunnage washing process – because it eliminates moisture that can cause rust or corrosion to valuable parts.
First, the customer’s cleaning and drying specifications are determined, as well as their timeframe. Then the best cleaning solvent is selected for the specific type of soluble coolant, grease, oil, or sludge (if any) that is specific to their manufacturing processes.
Adjustable nozzles are positioned around the conveyor belt in the wash and rinse zones at the correct height for the dunnage. Mist collectors are also located in both the wash and rinse zones.
A chemical injection system for the wash solution is deployed. Other customized accessories that may be used include an oil skimmer and a contamination sensor.
An ambient, intermediate blower is used to provide blow-off of solution between the wash and rinse zones (and after the final rinse zone) to minimize cross-contamination and solution retention.
The parts then travel to the heated blow-off module for the first step of drying. Adjustable air knives are positioned to accommodate the various container sizes, to ensure that the inside and outside of the dunnage is dried to the customers need and specifications.
Depending on the customers needs, the cleaned dunnage may be wrapped, labelled, and either stored at our warehouse for future use, or expedited to the client’s desired location.
Absolutely! Our aqueous dunnage washing system does not use harsh solvents. Instead, we choose safe, biodegradable, water-based container cleaning solutions.
Instead of using harmful chemicals to break down dirt and debris, aqueous washing solutions use heat, high pressure, and biodegradable ingredients to have the same exceptional cleaning power.
This avoids the need for costly and toxic petroleum solvents – which keeps our prices down while protecting the planet and maintaining environmental compliance.
